Bio - Leadership - Experience

I have lived in Eagle Mountain since June 2009. I am currently employed by the State of Utah, Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), as a program manager. Responsibilities in this position include oversight of prevention planning and collaborative program implementation for all counties within the 13 Local Substance Abuse Authorities. I have 10 years of experience in community mobilization, coalitions, budget management, and implementing evidence and research-based strategies that demonstrate effective outcomes for reducing substance abuse and related issues. Other duties in this position include budget planning and monitoring with state and county financial officers to ensure effective use of state and federal funds. I have chaired and participated in a variety of planning committees and coalitions. I worked as the advisor for Governing Youth Council for Utah County Department of Drug Prevention and Treatment and at DSAMH. In this capacity, I trained youth in leadership, mentoring and drug prevetnion strategies, so they could be advocates in their high schools and communites. They were able to conduct assemblies, mentor peers, and implement policies to address issues that impact youth and families.

I served in the Military in the Air Force as a Firefighter from 1986-1991 and earned the rank of Sergeant.  I had many leadership opportunities and feel that serving in the military helped me better understand the link between honoring the constitution and service to my fellow man.  For that, my military experience and the military servicemen and women who have served or currently serve will always have a place in my heart.

Currently, I serve as chair for the Eagle Mountain/Saratoga Springs Communities That Care coalition. I am also a member of the Eagle Mountain Parks and Recreation Board. I also work as an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor at the Department of Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment in Provo, where I provide mental health counseling.
